When I reformatted my computer, I upgraded to sp3 and I tried to get wireless internet and I couldnt so I read some articles online and it said something about a PCI modem so I went to my driver list and noticed it has a little triangle with an exclamation point in it so i tried to reinstall it and it said the wizard cannot find the neccesary software. Please help me!
Since the OS did not have the drivers, you will have to go out on the web and download them from either the computer manufacturer's site or the modem manufacturer's site.

I purchased a new graphics card for my PC. I looked up the specs for my CPU online prior to ordering the card and saw that there is a x16 pci port but can't seem to find it. Does anyone know if it's located at the bottom of the motherboard or on top.
Neither, it is located in the middle… It is above the 2 normal PCI slots..
There are 3 slots in this motherboard, it is the black slot above the 2 white PCI slots.

You might have trouble fitting newer bigger video cards in there.

The title pretty much explains it. I'm running one 9600gt on a PCI 1.0 slot. How much of a performance increase am I going to see if I switch to a PCI 2.0 motherboard?
You will see NO difference in performance..
The 9600GT does not come anywhere near maxing out the bandwidth of a PCIe 16x v1.0 slot.
The data rates mentioned below is per lane. 250 megabytes per second per lane, 16 lanes in a PCIExpress 16x slot for a total of 4 Gigabytes per second.
The GPU on the 9600GT is NOT anywhere near fast enough to max out the data rate of a PCIe 16x v1.0 slot. Moving that 9600GT onto a v2.0 board will NOT improve the card's performance in any way.

And yes, I do mean regular PCI.
I know you can have a videocard, tv tuner card, and networking card. But what else?
A few that come to mind:
Sound card
SCSI card
Modem
Additional IDE/SATA/RAID controllers (much better on PCI-E though)
Quite a few things that were reliant on PCI are beginning to appear in PCI-E, which for a long time, has only really served as the replacement for AGP graphics with the PCI-E x1 slots having very little to fill them.
How time flies, what was once thought of as a fast bus, is now something of a performance limitation - certainly a PCI RAID controller is likely to be bus limited.

How can I check what kind of PCI slot I have. I know it isn't PCI-E, but I wanted to know if it was PCI 1 or 2, because I want to add a graphics card to it that requires PCI 2. I tried SIW but that didn't tell me. Does anyone know a way I can find out?
PCI 1.0 was just a component level specification that was released in June 1992. It was PCI 2.0 (April 1993) that established standards for the motherboard slot and matching connector. It is most likely that your PC has the updated PCI 2.1 or 2.2 slot. It would accept most PCI cards.
Take note that PCI is very SLOW (and actually obsolete) for 3D graphics acceleration. Any PCI graphics card would have difficulty playing most current games.

I need a few drivers for a laptop, so it gives me a vague name and a few numbers, like PCI bus 5, device 1, function 3. Is there any way I can find out what exactly that device is so I can find its driver? By the way, there are five missing drivers total on this Dell XPS M1730.
find out what kind of motherboard you have by opening it up, look it up on the internet and see fi you can find a manual

yeah…. i wanna get a new graphics card for my computer but apparently it requires 500 watts of power and two 75w 6-pin pci express power connectors. its a custom computer, so it doesnt have the tag on it.
As answered, unplug the computer. Open the case. Touch the metal frame of the open computer case to De-static your body. Look at the side of the power supply, and see if there is a sticker. It may not state Maximum watts. You may have to add all the Amps for each voltage rail,
(3.3 volts, 5 volts, and 12 volts) Then take the Total Amps times your house voltage. In the US it's 120 volts. Europe it's 220. Japan it's 100.
Amps x Volts = Watts
Or, the sticker may be on top of the power supply.
You may, have to unscrew three or four screws, going into the power supply, from the back of the computer.
Then take a clamp loose inside, that has screws, and drops the power supply down.
Or, there may just be a plastic lock, that holds a metal or plastic piece, that is hinged in the middle.
Looks kinda' like a half moon in the center, with a small handle coming off of it. You gently press down on a plastic locking piece, to be able to swing the handle to the outside. This moves the half moon away from the power supply, and allows it to drop down.
There are many designs, to keep the power supply attached to the inside of the computer case. There is Always, three or four screws on the back, however.
Edit: This is a website that has info and photos, to show you , and tell you about the various power cable connectors.

I have an HP desktop pavillion sg3420la. I can't find it in the hp website.
I've found this to be helpful and problem free.

It is a Presario 2585us laptop and has a mini-PCI wireless adapter card already. I want to try a new PCMCIA wireless card to see it it works better. Do I need to physically remove the internal card or not? Since both cards will be for the same purpose, I was wondering if there could be conflicts?
you dont have too .. you can disable it in windows or if your laptop has the wifi on off button you can turn it off there.
